Our History
Ephraim Medical Enterprises Limited (EMEL) was established in 1989 when Dr. Paula Thomas-Mark took over a private medical practice in Morvant. She operated as a solo general practitioner until relocating the clinic to Woodbrook in 1996 to better serve private and corporate patients.
In 1998, the practice moved to Barataria, where Dr. Thomas-Mark oversaw the establishment of a more permanent medical office. By 1999, additional physicians, including Dr. Gillian Wheeler, joined the team, marking the beginning of a growing practice.
In 2006, the administrative structure of the organization was strengthened with the appointment of Mr. Ashton Dominic Mark as Office Administrator. In the following years, EMEL modernized its operations by implementing digital appointment scheduling, financial systems, and electronic medical records. In 2013, the practice was formally incorporated as Ephraim Medical Enterprises Limited. The team expanded in 2015 with the addition of new professionals in general practice. Since then, EMEL has continued to enhance its services. In 2024, the practice broadened its offerings by introducing surgical consultations.
Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, EMEL remains dedicated to serving the community with commitment, innovation, and care.
